Michael J. Folmer, PhD, received a B.S. degree in meteorology from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL in 2004, the M.S. degree in meteorology from Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO in 2009, and the PhD in meteorology from Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO in 2011. Currently, he is a Satellite Liaison for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite - R-series (GOES-R) and Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Proving Ground at the National Weather Service Ocean Prediction Center, Weather Prediction Center, National Hurricane Center Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch, and the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service's Satellite Analysis Branch. He focuses on getting these centers ready for the next generation of geostationary and polar-orbiting satellites by training forecasters on new satellite products and techniques.
