CISESS is closely linked to University of Maryland’s academic programs. CISESS scientists serve as advisors for graduate students in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science (AOSC), Department of Geology, and Department of Geography. Many CISESS scientists are either members or affiliated researchers with these departments. Some CISESS scientists are part of the teaching faculty at the University of Maryland, offering undergraduate- and graduate-level courses on such topics as Atmospheric Dynamics, Scientific Computation in Applied Mathematics & Statistics, Synoptic Meteorology, and Mesoscale Meteorology. Other CISESS researchers are engaged in teaching courses at other universities.

CISESS also provides advisors for the AOSC Undergraduate Major, which has a required capstone research project. The close partnership between AOSC and CISESS is also a major recruitment tool for the AOSC undergraduate program.

AOSC undergraduate student Alex Friedman defends his senior research project that he completed with CISESS mentor Dr. Daile Zhang.
