NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) focuses on the science and management of US coral reefs. CRCP-funded data collection and processing efforts result in thousands of data sets and information products which inform decision makers, resource managers, and scientists about coral habitat and inform and educate the public about coral ecosystems. This project will provide three researchers to support comprehensive data management and information services through the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).  CISESS scientists working in support of the Coral Reef Information System (CoRIS) will provide initial scientific review of all data sets submitted to NCEI through the CRCP for archive. CISESS scientists will focus on assembling and evaluating these data submissions within the NCEI levels of stewardship.

CISESS scientists will also manage the design, content and messaging of multiple websites for the CRCP to maximize the reach of publications and products. This work will involve meeting with resource managers to assess the most effective way of communicating the products of CRCP to achieve desired conservation outcomes. Through enhancements to the CoRIS suite of services, CISESS scientists will advance management actions to protect coral ecosystems by allowing scientists and managers to effectively discover and access data and information.
