Surja Sharma
A. Surjalal Sharma (orcid.org/0000-0002-8842-0100) is a research scientist and director of Goddard Planetary Heliophysics Institute, and teaches astrophysics in the Department of Astronomy, University of Maryland. His research in plasma theory and modeling, numerical simulations, complex systems and data science have addressed a range of topics including terrestrial and space weather, heliophysics, planetary atmospheres, extreme events, predictability and data-driven modeling. His current interests include machine learning in complex systems framework, exploration with small satellites, and modeling of Moon’s exosphere. Dr. Sharma was the 2009 American Geophysical Union Lorenz Lecturer, 2011 (Inaugural) University of Maryland CMNS Distinguished Research Scientist and 2013 Indian Geophysical Union K R Ramanathan Lecturer. He is a Foreign Fellow of the Indian Geophysical Union and Fellow of the American Physical Society.
