Annika Jersild

Annika Jersild is a research scientist with a focus on quantifying uncertainty in observations and improving ability to fill observational gaps in our oceans, using a combination of statistical, machine learning, and modeling techniques. Her interests lie in improving our understanding of ocean dynamics and applying it to reducing uncertainty in ocean biogeochemical quantifications and predictions for the impacts of climate change. She has been working at the University of Maryland since winter 2024. Prior to that, she completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany, where she used machine learning to constrain uncertainty in air-sea carbon flux and ocean carbon storage estimates. She earned her PhD from Georgia Tech in 2022 from the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
