Luyu Sun is a Post-Doctoral Associate for the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. She earned her B.S. degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2012. She then received a doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Scientific Computation from University of Maryland, College Park in 2019. Her dissertation title is “Developments in Lagrangian Data Assimilation and Coupled Data Assimilation to Support Earth System Model Initialization.” She is now working on a CISESS task to improve tropical cyclone intensity forecasts by assimilating ocean surface drifter paths with altimeter sea level in a coupled atmosphere-ocean forecast system.
