Zaizhong Ma

Zaizhong Ma is a Research Scientist at ESSIC, mainly engaged in the simulation and evaluation of next generation microwave satellite observation for NWP application using the ECMWF Ensemble Data Assimilation (EDA) method. He received his B.S. (1999) in Atmospheric Science from Lanzhou University and Ph.D. (2008) in Atmospheric Science from Chinese Academy of Sciences. Before starting at NOAA in 2010, he spent a year as a postdoctoral fellow at NCAR. His primary research interests include satellite data assimilation and the data impact on NWP, such as GPS Radio Occultation, Himawari-8, Microwave sounders, etc. In addition, he was a task lead for the wind Lidar OSSE project at JCSDA, which conducted a series of OSSEs aimed at assessing the potential impact of a space-based Doppler wind lidar.
