Two new Phase I projects were awarded by NOAA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program:

Dynamic Frequency Passive Millimeter-wave Radiometer Based on Optical Up-Conversion - Phase Sensitive Innovations, Newark, DE (R. Ferraro, Technical Representative)

Mobile VHF Lightning Mapping System (S. Rudlosky, Technical Representative).
The projects will run for six months, with completion on February 1, 2014. If successful, the companies may apply for more substantial funding through a Phase II project in FY14. Kick off meetings with these two companies will take place within the next two weeks.
The ongoing Phase II project with WorldWinds, Inc. is nearing completion. Through their subcontractor Baron Services, new satellite data products from TV broadcasters are being made available to current customers through an "Insight Weather data package, presently in beta-mode, with commercial availability expected in October. An example of a Saharan Air Layer Product is provided below.
