World Ocean Database Updates and Seasonal Estimates of Ocean Temperature, Salinity, Heat Content, and Steric Sea Level

The World Ocean Database is the world’s most extensive collection of ocean profile data, which is updated four times per year and available without restriction. With the quarterly updates of WOD comes the quarterly updates of WOD’s derived Global Ocean Heat & Salt Content products. CISESS staff will be responsible for processing in situ ocean profile data from both national and international sources on a continual basis for inclusion in the World Ocean Database and the NCEI archives. CISESS staff will also continue to create and perform quality control on a variety of WOD-derived products, including the quarterly ocean heat and salt content products.  Additionally, they will execute research tasks related to WOD data quality, ocean heat, and freshwater variability.  Finally, calculated fields will be used to carry out scientific investigations of the ocean's role in climate change.
