Assessing Design and Deployment Strategies for Future Microwave-Sounding Missions

CISESS Scientist Dr. Zaizhong Ma and co-authors, including CISESS Deputy Director Dr. Hugo Berbery, recently published a study on the expected forecast impact of future microwave sounding instruments planned under NOAA’s Near Earth Orbit Network (NEON) program. This work was done using the Ensemble of Data Assimilations (EDA) for the Integrated Forecasting System in collaboration with the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

SOUP: A Recipe for Managing Ocean Data from the Abyss to Archive

CISESS Scientist Anna Lienesch has recently implemented a new NOAA ocean exploration data user portal called SOUP. As a Sample Data Manager on the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer, she is a primary user of this tool, which she helped design, enhance, and test. SOUP may undergo further development to be used for other projects, replacing outdated workflows and streamlining processes.

Tse-Chun Chen Wins AMS Student Speaker Award

Doctoral student Tse-Chun Chen, who works with CICS Scientist Eugenia Kalnay on proactive quality control using ensemble data assimilation techniques, was awarded Best Student Presentation at the IOAS-AOLS Conference at the 2017 AMS Annual Meeting.

Berbery Receives RAICES Award
